1. Prevent blood from clotting too quickly

Blood will coagulate when exposed to air. When we drop blood into the collection area of the test strip, due to capillary effect, the blood will spread to the detection area of the test strip. However, this takes some time. If the blood coagulates too quickly, it may coagulate before spreading to the detection area, resulting in detection failure. On the other hand, excessive microcoagulation (kuai) in plasma can slow down the diffusion rate and prolong the time required for detection results.

2. Dilute blood concentration

After adding diluent, the concentration of blood will decrease, and the concentration of HIV antibodies will also decrease, which puts higher requirements on the sensitivity of the test strip. The test strip needs to be able to detect low concentrations of HIV antibodies. Therefore, when the test result is positive, the result is very accurate. However, if too much diluent is added and the concentration of HIV antibodies is too low, it may cause the test strip to fail to detect and result in false negatives.
